Create a Budget

Procedure:

  1. From the left pane (navigation menu), select Settings. The Settings page is displayed.

  2. Click the Budgets tab.

  3. Select the + Add button to create a new budget. The Add Budget dialog appears.

  4. Enter the required information in the following fields and click the Next button at each step after providing the values.

Field

Description

Name

Enter the budget name. The value must be unique.

Description

Enter the description specific to the budget.

Period

Select the budget granularity cycle value from the drop-down. The values are Daily, Monthly, Quarterly and annual.

Start Date - End Date

Select the calendar date on which the budget will start and expire. If you do not make any selection, the value is set to Never Expire by default.

Budget Method

Select the method that you want to use: Fixed or Planned.

Budget Scope

Condition

In the If section, use the following drop-down lists to specify the condition to fetch the assets that are in the scope for the budget.

  • Condition Type: Select the type of condition from the drop-down.

  • Condition Operator: Select the required operator from the drop-down.

  • Value: Select the value(s) for the selected condition type. You can select multiple entries from the list

You can use the + Add Condition button to add more conditions. Clicking this button will add a new row to define another set of conditions.

After you enter the condition(s), click the Fetch Assets button to retrieve the assets that are in scope for the budget based on the condition provided. You can click the popout icon to view the assets list based in the selected condition in a new tab.

Note: The budget will apply to the whole organization if no condition is selected.

Budget Threshold

Budget Amount

Enter the amount allocated for the assets. The value must always be greater than zero. You can also use the up and down arrows to increase or decrease the value.

Currency

Select the currency from the drop-down.

Budget Scope

Select the budget scope that you want to see: By perspective, By Account, By Provider.

Compare Against

Select the budget parameter that you want to compare against from the drop-down.

  1. Click Add. A confirmation message is displayed stating that your budget is created successfully.

  2. Click Create Alarm to create a new alarm.

  3. At the Add Alarm window, add the alarm description and then click Next.

  4. Click Next. The Alarm Threshold section is displayed. You can also notice an alert stating the value of the budget cost for the assets in scope at the top.

  5. You can set the alarm threshold by setting the following

    1. Threshold Type: Select the threshold type from the drop-down.

    2. Threshold Value: Enter the threshold value. You can notice the percentage is displayed as you enter the threshold value.

    3. Severity: Select the required severity from the drop-down.

Note: You can click +Add Threshold to add multiple rows.

  1. Click Next.

  2. Set the notification preference by selecting the required checkboxes to define the mode of communication.

  3. Click Add. A confirmation message is displayed stating that the alarm is created successfully. Click Close to close the message.
